At Home Dog Training FAQs
At Hospitable Hounds, we specialize in one-on-one, in-home training tailored to your dog’s unique needs. Our services include behavior modification to address specific challenges—such as reactivity, anxiety, or aggression—as well as household manners training that covers obedience, leash walking, and everyday life skills. Whether you're working on resolving problem behaviors or building a solid foundation for a well-mannered companion, our personalized approach is designed to support both you and your dog every step of the way.
Our trainer uses reward-based and force free training methods which include positive reinforcement and consent work to build a strong bond between you and your dog, give your dog confidence and create a dog that wants to work with you.
Since every dog is an individual and every dog-handler pair is unique in terms of how they learn and how they apply the skills taught at each session, it’s impossible to say how long it will take for you to achieve your particular training goals. However, most clients report they start seeing positive changes in their dog’s behavior after just one session!
I offer private sessions that take place in your home or at an outdoor location suitable to work on your dog’s struggles. Private sessions mean you get a training plan tailored to your specific training goals and your dog’s learning style which helps to advance behavior change faster than group classes that are more general.
I am an experienced certified dog trainer with 2 certifications that provide me with in depth knowledge about dog behavior and how to effectively communicate with dogs to achieve real life and long-lasting results in dog training. I not only graduated with distinction from the Master Class at CATCH Canine Trainers Academy which allowed me to mentor with an experienced dog trainer, but also earned Pro Dog Trainer status as a Concept-Based dog trainer.
Yes, I can absolutely help dogs who are reactive and have become aggressive. Although dogs prefer non-confrontational forms of communication, reactivity and aggression can develop when their more subtle signals are ignored or misunderstood. For these dogs, it’s important to take a step back and understand that they are feeling overwhelmed and unable to handle the situation. Transformation starts by building skills such as Calmness, Disengagement, Optimism and Confidence.
Dogs, and especially puppies are always learning and trying to figure out what’s expected of them so it’s important to start training as soon as you pick up your pup. However, it’s important to make sure you are training age-appropriate skills and not overtraining your pup as they can get easily overwhelmed at such a young age. The first couple of weeks should involve primarily relationship building games, basic household manners/routines and how to interact appropriately with people. Then a more targeted and balanced training plan can be introduced as early as 10 weeks!
All sessions take place at your home, or for more advanced work at an outdoor location that will help grow your dog’s skills.
At every session it’s important to have a variety of rewards (food/treats/toys) ready and available. In addition, your dog’s walking equipment (leash/collar/harness, etc.) will be needed for some games and training strategies.
